DJ Princess Petite (SF)

DJ Princess Petite, a.k.a. Jomai Etu, began DJing in 1991 as a radio guest, before moving on to clubs and parties. Dissatisfied with a rave scene that seemed less and less friendly to LGBTQI+ patrons, he found a home in house music — one that was positive and hopeful in the middle of a rough time — one that offered him a space to grow as an artist and a person.

An avid synth-head since a teenager, Princess Petite began producing house and techno with his DJ mentor, DJ Hotwax Harley in 1993, as Magic Paisley Dubs. He's written and produced music since with many people, such as Karter Louis, Supahero GoGo Starz, Brooklyn Hum, MLMG, and DJ Foxxy. He also writes disco under the moniker kosmoniq, and ambient music as PW3LBRT.

In 1994, he co-founded “House Dat!,” the South’s first and largest party dedicated to house music and queers of color. The still-segregated club culture was something he wanted to change, and the parties the four original founders created set the bar for what clubbing experiences should be: diverse, fabulous, and fun. Sweat and dancing until the sun came up.

Princess Petite moved to San Francisco in 1998, where he became a resident DJ at Sugar, a weekly party at the legendary Stud. He also played at 1015, Sound Factory SF, The Cat Club, and other venues in that period. Before relocating to Brooklyn, he had a small run at the endUp, where he became known as Jomai Etu instead.

Jomai became a DJ on PrePartyRadio.com, hosting weekly shows from New York City and again once he returned to San Francisco. He still writes and produces house, disco, and ambient music today.
